A NEW SIDE OF VIVALDI
All the items included in this programme are new additions to the canon of Vivaldi’s works. Apart from their novelty, they form an attractive and varied conspectus of the composer’s activity.
Some – including works of considerable importance – have escaped previous discovery by being preserved in an anonymous source or even by being attributed falsely to a different composer.
Some of the pieces included in this ‘stocktaking’ of newly discovered Vivaldi works are fully comparable in quality and ambition to their counterparts in the relevant section of Vivaldi’s oeuvre, and there is no reason why they should not immediately take their rightful place among their peers.
The new discoveries present a new side of Vivaldi.
